NEW ORLEANS, June 27 (DC Times Online) — James Carville said he cannot stay in the same party as Darializa Avila Chevalier, a Democratic congressional candidate linked in coverage to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and called for Democrats to talk openly about a “schism.”

Speaking on the Politicon podcast, the veteran Democratic strategist said, “I’m done,” and, “I’m not in that political party.” He also said Democrats should “negotiate the terms of a schism” and told critics to “start your own movement” or “form your own party.”

Carville also said he did not want to be in a party “that denies the right of the state of Israel to exist.” In another remark, he said, “Lady, I ain’t in the same party as you,” referring to comments he linked to Avila Chevalier.

The comments came after New York Democratic primary wins by Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez and Brad Lander. Carville has separately warned in a New York Times op-ed that Democrats were moving toward a “civilized civil war” and said any split should wait until after the 2026 midterms.
