WASHINGTON, July 7 (DC Times Online) — House Oversight Chairman James Comer pushed back on Democrats’ plan to examine President Donald Trump’s America 250 celebration, saying they would rather “Donald Trump fail and America fail” than celebrate the nation’s founding.

Speaking on Fox News’ “The Big Weekend Show,” the Kentucky Republican said Democrats would “investigate and harass Donald Trump” if they win back the House majority.

The comments came after House Democratic staff on the House Natural Resources Committee, led by Rep. Jared Huffman of California, released a 55-page interim report accusing Trump allies of turning the America 250 effort into a partisan spectacle tied to Trump’s political and religious agenda.

The report said donations intended for the bipartisan America250 nonprofit were redirected, without donors’ knowledge, to Freedom 250, a separate nonprofit linked to Trump-backed events. It also said Trump allies tried to sideline America250, put Trump at the center of the celebration and sell access to him in exchange for donations.

Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez called the accusations “categorically false.”

In a separate on-air appearance, Comer said he had seen nothing he considered illegal involving Trump or his family and said voters would decide the matter at the polls.
