BAHRAIN, June 27 (World Daily Times) — Bahrain said Iran launched drones into its territory on Saturday, drawing condemnation from the Gulf Cooperation Council and several Gulf states that said the attack threatened regional security and peace efforts.

Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry called the strike a “flagrant threat” to the kingdom’s security and said Iran’s actions placed responsibility on Tehran for undermining efforts to preserve calm.

GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned the attack as “treacherous” and said it would undercut diplomacy in the region. Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry called the strikes “a dangerous undermining of endeavors for peace and stability,” while the United Arab Emirates said it stood with Bahrain in support of its safety and stability.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar also condemned the attack, saying it violated Bahrain’s sovereignty and international law. In a separate statement, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said on state television that it had targeted several locations it described as belonging to “the U.S. terrorist army in the region.”

The dispute comes after Gulf foreign ministers meeting in Bahrain earlier denounced Iranian assaults on Bahrain and Kuwait and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, saying Iran was fully accountable.
