WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a hospital in Washington on the morning of June 14, and his office said he was “receiving excellent care.”

David Popp, a spokesperson for the Kentucky senator, said the office was not publicly providing a reason for the hospitalization.

In a June 16 update, Popp said McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell, 84, was also hospitalized earlier this year after what his office described as “flu-like symptoms.”

Popp said McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation on the night of Feb. 2 after experiencing those symptoms over the prior weekend.

McConnell was discharged on Feb. 10, according to Popp. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
