MIAMI, July 22 (Our Florida Times) — The FBI said it arrested Khalid Ahmed Satary overseas and returned him to the United States in a South Florida case accusing him of helping run a $547 million Medicare fraud scheme.
Satary was indicted in 2019 in the Southern District of Florida, according to the FBI and court records referenced by the bureau. Authorities said he violated the conditions of his pretrial release in 2022, and a federal arrest warrant was issued.
The FBI said Satary is accused of taking part in a conspiracy that billed Medicare for expensive and medically unnecessary genetic tests from 2016 through 2019. The bureau said the alleged scheme used deceptive marketing, illegal kickbacks and bribes to drive false claims.
Satary was placed on the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters list, and the bureau offered a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction. FBI Director Kash Patel said Satary’s arrest and return to the U.S. was the third capture from the list in five weeks.
The FBI said Satary was apprehended overseas with help from U.S. and international law-enforcement partners. The case is tied to the FBI’s Miami office and to federal prosecutors in South Florida.
