SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa., July 5 (DC Times Online) — Pennsylvania authorities have charged Michael Bon, a Brockton, Massachusetts, truck driver, in Schuylkill County in a fatal crash that killed Pennsylvania State Police trooper Michael Pahira, court records show.
Charging information lists homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and six lesser offenses. Bon was being held at Schuylkill County Prison on $700,000 bail, and his next court date was set for July 15.
Federal immigration records summarized by Fox News show that the Department of Homeland Security lodged an immigration detainer against Bon. Fox reported that he entered the United States at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in July 2024 under a humanitarian parole program, later applied for Temporary Protected Status and was denied, and had his parole terminated in June 2025 with an order to leave the country.
The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles said Bon first qualified for a Massachusetts non-domiciled commercial driver’s license in March 2025 when he was authorized to work under federal law. Fox reported that the license was renewed in February 2026.
The Boston Globe reported, based on police records, that Bon was driving a white 2019 Freightliner with Florida registration DF64HU and a trailer loaded with clothing at the time of the crash. Fox News and CBS Boston identified the victim as Trooper Michael Pahira and reported that he had recently moved home to help care for his mother during cancer treatment.
Bon’s next court date is July 15.
