FLINT, Mich., June 28 (Our Michigan Times) — Genesee County prosecutors have charged Damien O’Brien and Jessica O’Brien in the death of their 7-year-old son, Casper O’Brien, after court records said he weighed 255 pounds when he died in Flint Township.

The charges include second-degree murder, torture and child abuse, according to online court records and the Genesee County prosecutor’s office.

Casper died Nov. 4, 2025, after a 911 call from the family’s Flint Township home reported that he was not breathing, according to law enforcement information summarized in court-related reporting.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said in an emailed statement that the case involved neglect.

“These parents, I believe, neglected this child to the point that he became obese,” Leyton said, according to one report. Another report paraphrased his statement as describing “reckless and intentional neglect” and saying the child suffered severe bedsores, rashes and other health problems.

CBS News reported that Damien O’Brien is 40 and Jessica O’Brien is 41, based on online court records. The outlet also reported that both are expected to appear at a probable cause conference on Thursday.
