SAN ANTONIO, July 9 (Our Texas Times) — Toyota Motor North America said it will invest $3.6 billion to expand its San Antonio manufacturing campus, add a second assembly line and shift Tacoma pickup production from Mexico to Texas over about four years, a move the company said will create 2,000 jobs.
The project will add 2.5 million square feet and double the size of the site by 2030, according to Toyota’s press release and facility page. Toyota said the enlarged campus will eventually build the Tacoma alongside the Tundra, Sequoia and rear axles.
Toyota said the San Antonio campus already has one vehicle assembly line and a rear axle plant that is nearing startup, with rear axle production set to begin in fall 2026.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, in a quote included in Toyota’s announcement, called the expansion a sign that “Texas is where the world builds bigger” and described it as a $3.6 billion project in San Antonio.
