WASHINGTON, July 12 (DC Times Online) — The Trump administration subpoenaed four New York Times journalists on Friday in a grand jury leak investigation tied to reporting about security concerns surrounding a newly retrofitted Boeing 747-8 given to President Donald Trump by Qatar, The New York Times reported.

The subpoenas sought testimony from Eric Lipton, Julian E. Barnes, Tyler Pager and Eric Schmitt before a grand jury in Manhattan federal court on Wednesday, according to The Times. The newspaper reported that federal agents delivered some of the subpoenas directly to the reporters’ homes.

A Justice Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the journalists are not the focus of the probe. “To be clear, reporters are not the targets. Those leaking classified information are,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also said the department would continue investigating national security leaks and officials who disclose classified information affecting national security.

The Times reported that the aircraft took its inaugural flight earlier this month.
