LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14 (Our Los Angeles) — A Los Angeles County grand jury has indicted Nick Reiner on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, at their Brentwood home, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The indictment was returned July 20, 2026, and unsealed Aug. 12, court and prosecution information show. Reiner pleaded not guilty after the indictment was made public. He remains in custody without bail.

Reiner is the defendant in the case. The charges are accusations, and a criminal indictment is not a finding that he committed the crimes. Prosecutors must prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

What does the indictment allege?

The indictment charges Reiner with two counts of first-degree murder. It also includes special-circumstance allegations involving multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. Prosecutors further allege that he personally used a knife as a dangerous or deadly weapon.

A special-circumstance allegation can affect the possible sentence if a defendant is convicted. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has not decided whether to seek the death penalty, District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. If convicted as charged, Reiner could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

The grand-jury proceedings and evidence presented to the grand jury were not public, according to court-related reporting about the case. The available information does not establish the evidence prosecutors presented to the grand jury.

What happened in Brentwood?

Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner were found dead at their home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles on Dec. 14, 2025. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office listed the cause of death as “multiple sharp force injuries.”

Rob Reiner was an actor and director. Michele Singer Reiner was described in records and reports about the case as a photographer and producer.

Nick Reiner was arrested later that day in the Exposition Park area near the University of Southern California, according to law-enforcement accounts. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the initial murder charges in December 2025, before the grand jury returned the later indictment.

The available records do not establish a precise time of death, a motive or the full evidentiary basis for the arrest.

What happens next?

A pretrial hearing is listed for Sept. 15 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles. No trial date has been reported.

Pretrial proceedings can address issues such as evidence, court schedules and legal motions. The case is being prosecuted by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The supplied court information identifies Alan Jackson as an earlier defense attorney and Kimberly Greene as counsel who entered a later not-guilty plea. It does not establish the current status of Reiner’s defense team after the indictment.
