SAN FRANCISCO, July 23 (San Francisco News Online) — Marin County prosecutors filed misdemeanor charges against Sausalito City Manager Elaine Forbes, and a judge on Wednesday ordered her released on her own recognizance while she undergoes a mental health evaluation, court records and her defense attorney said.

Forbes appeared in Marin County Superior Court before Judge Cindee Mayfield. Her attorney, Randall Knox, asked that bail be canceled so Forbes could receive the evaluation, and the judge granted the request, according to court reporting and defense statements.

Marin County jail records showed Forbes had been held on $50,000 bail before the release order. Prosecutors accused her of offenses tied to a weekend incident in Sausalito involving boats or a yacht that did not belong to her, but the exact circumstances have not been fully detailed in the available court filings.

Court records cited in reporting say the case includes four misdemeanor counts, including alleged loitering on private property, theft of personal property and two counts of lodging without an owner’s consent. Forbes is scheduled to return to court Aug. 11, and she has not yet entered a plea, according to the court appearance.
