NEW YORK, July 2 (Our New York News) — Two people climbed to the top of the Empire State Building in Manhattan on Wednesday and were taken into custody by the New York Police Department, police said.

The NYPD said charges were pending and the investigation was ongoing. Police said the pair were taken into custody without incident and that no injuries were reported.

An Empire State Building spokesperson said the climb was unauthorized and was resolved in coordination with police. The spokesperson said there was no threat to tenants, visitors or observation deck guests.

Police responded with the department’s Emergency Services Unit, and streets near Fifth Avenue and 34th Street were closed during the response, according to reports citing police.

Video and images from the scene showed the climbers unfurling a banner that read, “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”
